Mrs. Hilt is a graduate of the University of Virginia at Wise. She has a BA in English and is certified to teach high school English, speech, drama, and journalism; NK-6, and middle school (all subjects). Mrs. Hilt has also participated in graduate studies at East Tennessee State University.


This is Mrs. Hilt's ninth year of teaching at Tazewell Middle School!

Mrs. Hilt taught journalism, drama, and English at the high school and middle school levels in Wise County until her marriage, at which time she moved to Tazewell County.  At the high school level, she coached forensics and drama. She also has experience with Early Childhood Education in Wise County's Head Start program.

She taught journalism, English, and grammar at the high school level in Smyth County until the birth of her sons.

She has taught developmental English for Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap, VA, and also was in public relations there. In addition, Mrs. Hilt worked at the University of Virginia at Wise in public relations and was an English and writing instructor for the college's Upward Bound program, as well as tutoring English and other classes for Student Support Services. She also co-taught an education class at UVA Wise, where she was responsible for supervising college students interested in middle school education.


Mrs. Hilt is married to Don Hilt. They live in the Tannersville section of Tazewell County with their twin sons, Granger and Clayton, and their two dogs, Q.T. and Lucky. Mrs. Hilt,  a member of Crabtree Chapel United Methodist Church, is a lay servant for the United Methodist Church. She serves as the secretary for the Tannersville Community Association. She enjoys reading, writing, gardening, and Hokie football.
